Service Details
Description:

Volunteers provide emotional and practical support to individuals living with a palliative life limiting illness and their families. Services can be delivered at home, in hospital, retirement homes, LTC facilities and within our hospice: the Cook Family Residence.
A volunteer can help:
- Assist with everyday tasks (i.e. grocery shopping, letter writing)
- Transportation to medical appointments
- Provide emotional support
- Be a compassionate presence and listener
- Be supportive to family members
When you contact us, a staff member will arrange to meet with you and/or your loved one to discuss the type of volunteer that will best suit your needs and schedule.
All our volunteers are fully screened and have participated in +35 hours of Hospice training before being matched one-on-one.

Cost to Client:
All our programs and services are offered at no cost to our clients and caregivers through the generous support of our funders and donors.
Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Age: 21 yrs
Criteria:
Hospice of Waterloo Region accepts medical and non-medical referrals for individuals who have been given a palliative diagnosis, are in their last 18 months of life and require emotional or practical volunteer support or for caregivers requiring respite care or bereavement support. A Hospice Waterloo Region staff member will conduct an in-home assessment to determine eligibility for Hospice services and recommend the Hospice service(s) that would be most appropriate and helpful.
