Description:
The Outpatient Swallowing Clinic provides assessments and management for clients with swallowing difficulties by Speech-Language Pathology (SLP).
Clinical swallowing assessments and follow-up are offered at Grand River Hospital, either at the Freeport or KW Site. Clients will be directed accordingly.
Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies are optional. If considered clinically appropriate after the SLP’s initial assessment, they are completed at the Grand River Hospital’s KW site in Medical Imaging.

Criteria:
ADMISSION CRITERIA- Clients with swallowing difficulties. Prioritization is based on details provided.- Please consider esophageal investigations first or concurrently if the clientexhibits esophageal signs and symptoms, such as more difficulty with solids,globus sensation in the throat or chest, regurgitation.- Able to tolerate appointments, participate in goal-setting, and integraterecommendations into daily life with sufficient cognitive skills, or beaccompanied by a caregiver who is able to do so.- Able to tolerate travel to and from Grand River Hospital.- Clients with a minimum age of 16.- Medically stable.
