One-time session, 2 hours
An interactive education session focusing on cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBTi), which offers a non-medication approach to help get your sleep back. CBTi aims to help break old habits and patterns that interfere with sleep and replace them with new approaches that bring on sleep naturally. CBTi is officially recommended as the initial (or “first line”) treatment of insomnia.
This group is intended for adults (18+) who are tired of not sleeping; who struggle with falling asleep, staying asleep or waking too early, or a combination of these; who are still not sleeping despite taking a sleeping pill; and who struggle to keep focused throughout the day.
It is strongly encouraged that you attend this education session before considering individualized 1-on-1 CBTi therapy.
Participants will receive education, tools and resources for self-directed CBTi. Additionally, patients of the Thames Valley Family Health Team will have access to 1:1 intervention upon completion of the group.
CBTi offers long-lasting benefits and is more effective, much safer, and less costly than taking sleeping pills for months or years. If you can put the various components of CBTi into action and stick with them, you can experience better sleep within the first 1-2 weeks of starting the program. Improved sleep also leads to positive outcomes for those suffering from physical ailments and mental health challenges.
- If the group you wish to attend is full, please email programs@thamesvalleyfht.ca with your full name, email address, phone number, the name of your family physician, and the preferred group in order to be added to the waitlist.
