Description:

The STOP on the Road Study is a province-wide initiative lead by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in partnership with local public health units which delivers smoking cessation treatment and brief counseling support to eligible Ontario smokers, 19 years or older, who wish to quit within the next 30 days.
• Eligible smokers participate in a one-hour presentation which covers tips for quitting and how to safely use nicotine replacement therapies.
• Participants meet with a Registered Nurse and are dispensed a five week supply of FREE nicotine replacement therapy patches to make a quit attempt.

• CAMH staff follow-up with participants five weeks and six months after their quit date to ask about their quit attempt.

Minimum Age: 19 yrs
Criteria:
Interested smokers must be screened by a Customer Service Representative over the phone to determine eligibility to attend a STOP on the Road workshop. Study eligibility criteria have been set by the Research Team at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and relate to smoking and health history.
