Description:

Regional Specialty Mental Health Outreach offers non-urgent individual and group counseling by regulated health professionals (Registered Occupational Therapists and Registered Social Workers). Counseling is goal directed (e.g. skills development, goal setting and goal attainment), time limited and based on evidenced based therapeutic modalities for a variety of mental health concerns. Clinicians offer assessment, treatment and consultation with psychiatry when appropriate. Clinicians offer consultation with primary care and/or referral source. Outreach visits to be determined by client and clinician.



RSMH catchment is divided into 3 areas (support in each area may vary):



Hastings Prince Edward (HPE): RSMH has 1 clinician (OT) based in Belleville that provides RSMH services to the HPE region. Service available in this area includes 1:1 counselling.



Kingston: RSMH has several clinicians (OT and SW) covering the Kingston region. 1 clinician (OT) covers the rural Frontenac region, based out of Sharbot Lake. Services available in this area include 1:1 counselling and group support. Clinicians run various groups including the DBT skills groups: Managing Powerful Emotions, Mindfulness, People Skills. Clients are referred to groups internally by RSMH staff.



Lanark, Leeds & Grenville (LLG): RSMH has 1 clinician (OT) covering the Lanark Leeds Grenville area. Service available in this area includes 1:1 counselling.

Eligibility Criteria
Other Criteria:
Minimum Age: 18 yrs
Criteria:
  • Client must have a mental health concern and be able and willing to engage in goal directed counselling.
  • Examples of goal directed counselling: Client has specific goals/issues to work on (e.g. reduce symptoms related to a diagnosis or develop improved coping skills)
  • Clients may also present with complex chronic mental health concerns and may have already attempted other methods of evidence-based counselling support.
  • RSMH does not accept referrals for psychiatry
  • RSMH does not accept clients who primarily require case management
  • RSMH is not a crisis service
  • Clients who are typically seen on a biweekly basis (at the discretion of their clinician); and clients who require more intensive support may not be a good fit for the program
