DBT Skills Training is a 12-week group-based course that will equip you with practical mental wellness skills to help navigate your world, even when it feels out of control.
DBT Skills Training is one mode within a comprehensive DBT treatment program. The function of DBT Skills Training is to learn specific skills to increase an individual’s capabilities to cope with emotions and distress and experience life differently than they currently are. DBT Skills are useful for individuals who significantly struggle experiencing, tolerating, and regulating their emotions. They are also effective for individuals experiencing BPD, PTSD, depression, anxiety, ADHD and disordered eating. The skills are taught in a group setting to allow for individuals to learn from each other and provide a forum for practicing skills in the moment. The group format resembles a classroom more than a therapy session. It is not the setting to work through trauma or share personal details related to mental health challenges. Group facilitators provide teachings and new information, and members participate in discussion and hands-on practice of the skills. Groups are offered in-person at our office location, as well as virtually via Zoom.
