Developed by Dr. David Burns, this group teaches concepts of Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy in order to cope better with stress, anxiety, and
depression. It runs once weekly for 10 weeks. Self-esteem describes how people evaluate their sense of self-worth in life, based on patterns of thinking, feeling, and comparison to other people. Using the skills taught in this group can lead to better self-esteem, more self-confident, and better control of emotions.
Using the self-help book 10 Days to Self-Esteem, this group explores how certain patterns of thinking can be counter-productive to good emotional regulation. It is also helpful with developing relapse prevention strategies for those living with addictions. If substance use is related to problems with unpleasant emotions and negative patterns of thought, this group could be helpful.
Standard program length: 10 weeks (1.5 hour session/week)
