Description:

Indigenous midwifery care includes culturally appropriate Indigenous-led midwifery services in urban, rural, northern and on-reserve Indigenous communities. In addition to pregnancy and newborn care, Indigenous midwifery includes a wide range of services for communities including well-person care (e.g. reproductive health checks, pregnancy tests, menopausal counselling), community-based birthing practices with Elders, traditional ceremonies and medicine, prenatal and parent/baby classes, rites of passage, among many other activities.
