Description:

"The Perinatal Psychiatry Clinic is a specialized program for pregnant or postpartum women. It is an experiential and psycho-educational psychotherapy based on attachment theories and inspired by the emotion-centered model. The group is composed of 8 to 10 participants and the 2 therapists (an occupational therapist and our psychiatrist specialized in perinatal psychiatry).



The group takes place over a period of 12 weeks, including a commitment meeting, and a final debriefing meeting.  



Goal is to increase client's level of functioning, knowledge about attachment, mother-child interactions and To decrease participants' anxiety and depressive symptoms."

Eligibility Criteria
Other Criteria:
Minimum Age: 18 yrs
Criteria:
  • Pregnant or have given birth within the last 18 months. .
  • 18 years old and over.
  • Primary diagnosis of unipolar or bipolar major depression and anxiety disorders that began or were exacerbated during the perinatal period (pregnancy to 12 months postpartum)
  • Motivated to participate
  • Completed referral form from primary care provider.
  • Valid OHIP health card
  • Referring by family physician or nurse practitioner agrees to a return care
  • If referred by a psychiatrist : Last Progress Note, Current Medication List, Confirmation to offer follow-up in case of crisis, Confirmation to accept the return of care must be included.
  • Be able to read, write and express emotions in the language of the group (French only). 10.) Have a sufficiently stable living situation to undertake a therapeutic process: housing, food, transport, reachable by telephone.
