Description:
Trained and screened volunteer visitors (aged 18+) provide 2-hour weekly scheduled visits to people with Alzheimer Disease or another dementia who are living alone or with a care partner (typically a family member). The visits provide companionship and social stimulation to the person with dementia.

Volunteers are recruited that represent the cultural-linguistic needs of the community. Volunteers are matched with people with dementia based on similar interests, language preferences, and cultural backgrounds.

Eligibility Criteria
Criteria:
- People diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease or another dementia- Living in Lanark County - Not be receiving services from other friendly visiting program. - Be accepting of a volunteer's visit. - The person with dementia does not soil him/herself and has control of his/her bladder and bowel. - If the person with dementia has a primary care partner, the care partner must agree to follow the policies and procedures of the program to ensure the safety of the person with dementia and the volunteer.
